Building a Skin Care Regimen that works!

With all the information floating around on the Internet, it’s hard to figure out what products are right for your skin, let alone build a good skin care regimen. This is something I’ve struggled with personally and from my experiences as well as tons of research, I’ve put together a guideline on how to build an effective skin care regimen that will give you the results that you desire.

1. Exfoliate.

Exfoliating is key to any skin care regimen. You can do this the old-school way, with a washcloth and good old water like me, or you can use a face scrub or an exfoliating brush. Either way, exfoliating rids your body of dead skin allowing products to get deep into your skin and do what they’re supposed to do. Exfoliating also gives way to brighter more radiant skin.

2. Cleanse, Tone, Moisturize.

A good skin care regimen should involve a good cleanser, toner and moisturizer. Choose products that suit your skin type and addresses your skin’s problems.

3. Stick with it!

Consistency is also key to flawless skin. It doesn’t matter how great your skin care regimen is, if you’re not consistent with it, it won’t work and the results won’t last.

4. Find the right products.

You don’t have to spend an arm and a leg on expensive skin care products, but you must ‘invest’ in quality skin care products if you want to see results. Learn about your skin type, find out what ingredients do well with your skin – and go for products with those ingredients.

5. Eat healthy and exercise.

Ever heard the saying, ‘what you look like on the outside is a reflection of what’s going on inside you?’ I personally, used to hate that saying because people always seemed to throw it at me, when I was looking ‘tore’ up, but it’ s true. If your skin is too dry and dull, it’s probably due to a bad skin care regimen, illness or a lack of adequate water in-take on your part. So eat healthy and exercise – your skin will thank you for it.

6. Be patient!

Your skin didn’t get the way it was in 1 day now did it? Nope! It got that way  over a period of time, so don’t expect it, to repair itself in 1 day. It takes time. Just be patient, be kind to yourself, be consistent and you’ll begin to see the changes that you desire.

Skin Care Cheat Sheet

Oily Skin

  • Cleanse your face twice a day with a mild liquid cleanser.
  • Use an oil free moisturizer.
  • Don’t  over-scrub your skin.
  • Don’t use powder to wipe up oil – your skin will look ashy.

Dry Skin

  • Use a mild ‘soap free’ cleanser.
  • Apply a moisturizer while your body is still damp to ‘lock in’ moisture.
  • Use products with glycerin, hyraulonic acid or dimethicone, unless you’re prone to acne.
  • Don’t use grainy cleansing products or buffing pads.
  • Don’t forget to apply an spf.

Combination Skin

  • Use a cleanser formulated for combination skin.
  • Apply moisturizer only when you need it.
  • Use a different cleanser for different parts of your face – it’s a waste of your time and money.
